Valentine’s Day is such a special day of the year. It’s as much fun for kids as it is for many adults. I still recall picking out valentine cards for my friends, when I was little, and deciding who to give them to, signing them and putting them into the envelopes.

You can buy many kinds of Valentine cards for kids at the store, but why not print some of these cute little pages of cards and let the kids cut out their own? Save a little money and give the kids a fun activity. All you need for making these cute cards is some heavyweight printer paper and some scissors. They can even use the envelope template to make their own envelopes.

Valentine pages for Pirates, Mermaids, Aliens. Princess, Puppies, Dragons, Animals.

We admit it … we love making things from discarded boxes. This is one of our newest projects using a recycled tissue box. It’s a fun Christmas craft that the whole family can help make. Send the kids out to collect some skinny straight branches and they can get a little extra exercise while they are collecting.

We made the Nativity figures using old corks and some bakeable clay. The tiny crib is made from a small matchbox. The best part is that the kids can play with this Nativity set that they have helped to make.

Need:

Rectangular Tissue box with oval opening

Sticks

Paint/ brush

Glue or Glue gun

Scissors

2 corks

1 matchbox

Air-dry or bakeable clay / or large wooden bead

Peel & Stick Glittery foam

Shredded paper

What To Do:

Enlarge the opening of the box, using scissors to cut an archway to the bottom edge, as shown.

Paint the inside and outsides of the box and let dry thoroughly. We used a light yellow for the inside of the Nativity.

Collect sticks for the top of the Nativity. Sticks should be cut to a length slightly longer than the length of the box for an overhang effect. Glue to the top of the box and let dry completely.

Cut a large Star from the sticky back foam and attach to the front corner of the Nativity.

Paint corks desired colors and let dry. Make heads from clay and let air dry or bake as instructed. We also made the baby shape from clay, using bakeable Sculpey clay. Let cool. Paint eyes on figures if desired. Use the head of a pin or nail to make small dots for eyes by diping end into paint and pressing to heads. Glue heads to cork bodies.

We swaddled our baby with a strip of paper towel (you could use a strip of cloth also) and wrapped around the body of the baby, attaching securely with glue. Let dry.

For the crib, use the inside section of a small matchbox. Attach 4 tiny twig legs with glue and let dry completely. Paint sides of crib.

For straw, shred, or cut thin strips of paper and then crinkle for a straw effect.

Make elegant silver reindeer for your mantle or use as a holiday centerpiece.

These striking Silver Reindeer are a great and inexpensive family craft project. The kids have fun collecting the sticks and they can even help assemble the reindeer. Although we made our silver you could also paint yours white or even red. For a really elegant centerpiece, make an entire herd of reindeer of varying sizes, but all painted the same color. We think silver is the best as the reindeer can then stay on the table well through the winter.

Need:

Assorted sticks

Silver or metallic duct tape

Silver spray paint

Garden clippers

What To Do:

After gathering the sticks, cut 1 body piece 6″ long, 4 legs 9 ” long, 1 V-shaped head-neck piece (neck 4″ long and head section 2 ” long.)

Make antlers from small branches, cutting 2 lengths about 7-8″ long.

Using tape, connect legs to front and back of body, twisting a thin strip of duct tape around each leg and the body several times to get a good joint.

Connect head/neck section, repeating the taping process.

Add antlers, one at a time, fastening well with the tape.

Spray reindeer and let dry completely.

You may even want to make a herd of reindeer, varying sizes, for a stunning centerpiece.
